Working with Brown Barn on a crowdfunding campaign for Kickstarter may have been the smoothest part of our whole project! They are knowledgable, communicative, and quickly learned what our project needed while providing valuable creative suggestions, which definitely showed in the final material. Brown Barn is easily worth it. 10/10 recommended!

COMMON QUESTIONS

Where does the name Brown Barn originate?

Growing up in rural West Sonoma County, my parents had a barn that we called, The Brown Barn, on their property. This building served many purposes, dating back to the early 1900s, when it was used to house livestock. We used it for many things, including filming, and that is where the name Brown Barn Films originated.

Beyond my parent's barn, barns are beautiful, utilitarian buildings that age gracefully and adapt over time. Most barns were created to hold livestock or farm equipment, but many, especially in Sonoma County, have been renovated. They are event venues, backyard bars, home offices, and accessory dwelling units. They serve many purposes over their lifespan and will continue to adapt as time goes by. The barn symbolizes our ideology as a business. We use the same techniques and practices from the early days of film, adapting, and changing with time. Always fulfilling a need and serving a purpose.

How do we charge?

We charge for our services at a flat rate, per project fee. This fee is based on labor estimates, including pre-production, production, crew required, travel, editing time, deliverables needed, and any other expenses we foresee arising.

Occasionally, we need to increase our pricing if the scope of work changes from what we initially estimated. We do our best to avoid these scenarios and keep you in the loop every step of the way. If a requested service lies outside the scope of our initial estimate or contract, we will let you know so there are no surprises.

Why does video production cost so much?

Our rates are industry standard based on our experience, quality of work, and equipment. Having a background in the film industry and being well-versed in the local Sonoma County video production market, we know what others are charging, and have priced ourselves accordingly. Filmmaking is an art. It’s time-consuming, and a lot of the work happens before and after we are on location filming. We hold ourselves to the highest standards and want the best for your project. If you don’t think we will fit your budget, we are happy to refer alternative, budget-friendly, vendors that provide great work for the price.
